The animals

The journey will firstly take you to our free-range pigs. Watch them wallow in the pools of mud we’ve provided for them. They often look more like hippopotami! But they are tame and friendly and if you’re adventurous enough, you can hop on one for a ride. Witness a feeding frenzy and learn first hand why pigs have such a reputation for bad manners. And don’t miss our sows nursing their cute, pink piglets.

Hartland Farms Pigs

Visit the sheep pen for the opportunity to feed the hanslammetjies with a bottle. You’ll learn everything from why we cut a lamb’s tail, to which one gets to go to the market, when we shear and what we do with the wool.

Jessica, Jezebelle, Jasmine and Jewel are our Jersey cows and their calves. You’ll find out how we make cream and butter, while the kids learn where the milk comes from. Our Brown Swiss, Roxanne, produces milk that is excellent for cheese. Her son, Rocky, offers brave children an adventurous ride! You’ll also meet Harry Potter, our champion Charolais bull.

Hartland Farms Sheep and Cows

At our touch pen you will find geese, ducks, peacocks, chickens, turkeys, white guinea fowl and a tortoise.

Hartland Farms Ducks

Our American Saddle Horses, Happy Chief, Slip ‘n Slide, Xanadu and Dawn Surprise are the newest additions to our farm family. We are in the process of building stables and will offer horseback rides in due course.

Hartland Farms Horses

The cherry on top is a walk through our game camp where we have a number of springbok who have become reasonably tame and graze serenely with our two donkeys, Captain and Duiwel.
