River will show you his “mother plants” – herbs from which he grows cuttings in his nursery. He also grows herbs for the compost heap and others to make insect repelling concoctions.

Recently the importance of micro-organisms has been emphasised in agriculture. We practice holistic and sustainable endeavours; we multiply these effective organisms in molasses and then inoculate our land and animals with them. The skim milk is fed to the pigs, while the manure feeds our earthworm farm and compost heap. This in turn provides the nutrients for our olive trees, herbs and nursery.

Therefore all our plants are grown naturally, using organic compost, earthworms, effective micro-organisms and seaweed extract, added to the basic ingredients of river sand and vermiculite. We use no pesticides, fungicides or artificial fertilisers on our farm.
